15/8/2014 A Journey HalfwayI began my Family medicine fellowship course in June 2013. It is a 2 year course, intensive, with lots of assignments. I am slightly pass the mid point of the course. Course work is getting heavier, culminating with an exit interview in July 2015. This morning I reflected on my progress and was amazed how God has enabled me all this while. I wrote a poem to thank and praise Him.
Titled : A Journey Halfway A Journey Halfway T’was a journey that began last June Knowledge & wisdom was its tune Like a boat set sail for distant shore I began with great expectation and awe The sea started quiet By quarter way it became a riot I rowed hard with no progress Then came from Heaven a wind that bless The wind filled the sail Pushing my boat forward on its trail Gust after gust the blessings came No, not by my strength I can claim The next half journey will be tough Storms and seas a rough With hope my boat will hold Till journey end, will love for Him and truth makes me bold 30/7/2014 Health InsuranceHealth Insurance
I have been asked about health insurance by patients and friends. Health insurance products and planning for healthcare needs is a very complicated subject matter that most patients and some doctors do not understand well. Yet healthcare expenditure can be potentially high and many people are afraid they would not be able to afford medical care in the face of escalating cost. In this article, I discuss about the biblical view of insurance and our need as medical professionals to understand financial instruments that involve healthcare. Discussing about money, health and insurance can open doors to bring the Good News. 25/6/2014 Psalm 103Psalm 103 On 12 May 2014, Cru medical ministry at National University Singapore organised an end of academic year get together. We invited Casey, a Cru staff, to speak to the medical students. I was impressed by his message from Pslam 103 and its reference and relevance to medical professionals. I hope this message will also encourage you or help you to encourage others. Psalm 103 A psalm Of David. 1 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 9/6/2014 Heavenly bodiesStarry Starry Night The Universe in Perspective Psalm 8:3-4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Heavenly bodies are fascinating. Astronomy is an incredible science, bible tells us of the origin and purpose stars, movies and books spin stories set among the stars. I read a little of astronomy , reflected on a few bible verses and wrote my thoughts in 'Starry Starry night'. I have also put some of the resources that inspired me in 'The universe in perspective' The Physical Death of Jesus On 19 Apr 2014 which was a post Good Friday, I shared with my fellowship group about the physical death of Jesus. The materials I used was taken from the article 'The physical death of Jesus". I have made my presentation into a powerpoint slide with narration. I have also converted the powerpoint into a video and posted it on youtube. You are free to download the contents and use them. The resource page on "Physical Death of Jesus" is updated with these contents.
16/4/2014 Raising the dead, An Easter SpecialRaising the Dead If you have been in the healthcare profession long enough, you would have witnessed or participated in a resuscitation. Sometimes by God's grace, you managed to revive the person. Do you then have the feeling something special like a miracle has happened? To celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday I have written this article as an Easter Special 9/4/2014 Pillar of SaltPillar of Salt I have started a new section named Reflections. Here resides a collection of my musings. Amalgamations of bible truths, science and fantasy. I love a good story, be it in movies, comics or short stories. And I am not genre specific. Fiction , non fiction, history, science fiction, romance, adventure, fantasy. From these readings and a little imagination, I write my own interpretations of parts of the bible. So please read my articles under Reflections with a light heart. My first article is named Pillar of Salt, inspired by the events of Lot and his family during God's judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah. 12/3/2014 Man & MachinesI just watched this video today. It has already been viewed more than 1 million times on youtube. This video is a staged advertisement by KuKa Robotics, a German company. This advertisement was premiered at the grand opening of new KuKa robotics factory in Shanghai on 11 March 2014. The star robot is the Kuka KR Agilus, claimed to be the fastest and most precise robot commercially available. The human player is Timo Boll of Germany, a former No 1 world table tennis champion. My first impression was the amazing speed and accuracy of the robot, that it could take on any ball within its reach. Though the event was staged, the robot prowess were real. An accompany youtube video http://youtu.be/c2NeW9o5G6s had the film makers and Timo Boll himself being surprised by the skills of the robot. But imagine if you had Jesus beside you after you watched the video and praised the skills of the robot makers. He might say " Have you also considered Timo Boll whom I have wondrously made?" Man is God's greatest creation of all He created in Genesis 1. Man is an image of God Himself. If in your course of work find dealing with humans mundane, then may this picture of 18 amazing facts of the human body surprise you again of God's creation
25/2/2014 I see trees walkingI see trees walking I read an interesting article that gave a clinical presentation of Jesus 2 step healing of a blind man in Bethsaida. The author then proceeds to place this miracle in the context of events that occurred before and after the healing. If you would like to share about Jesus to your medical colleagues, this article provides material for a good start. I did some minor editing of the original article before I posted it. 23/2/2014 Evidence Based MedicineDeuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. I attended the Asia Pacific Evidence Based Medicine course at National University Hospital from 18 to 21 Feb. More details at http://www.apebmn.com. It was an excellent course that taught the basics of evidence based medicine and skills to critically appraise medical journals. Prof Gordan Guyatt from McMaster University Canada, the physician who coined the word evidence based medicine in 1988 was present to deliver a few lectures. He gave an excellent lecture on the bias interpretation of clinical trials, especially if the trials were sponsored and the researchers had financial gain. I reflected on my clinical lessons and realized that there were biblical correlations. I am now preparing a short essay on these reflections and will post them soon. Moses told the Israelites that they were blessed to have seen the signs and wonders of God when He brought them out of Egypt. And what God has revealed to them, they are to obey but there will be things will continue to be kept secret. I am blessed to have studied medicine. There are many facts I need to know but I also have to realize that there are many things man does not know. I pray God will be given me the discernment to differentiate what He has revealed, what He has not and the lies of man. So that I may practice honestly which is my duty. Hence I have placed Deuteronomy 29:29. on the site footer as a reminder. |
