Bible verses on the heavenly bodies

The purpose of the heavenly bodies  is to bring light and mark time.
Genesis 1:14-18
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,  and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.  God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.  God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

Earth and man look so insignificant when I were ponder at the physical size of creation, but then the bible tells us that man is the greatest creation and the centre of His plan
Psalm 8:3-4
When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

God is sovereign. Though there are so many stars, each star is unique and God knows each. God knows me too!
Psalm 147:4
He determines the number of the stars
and calls them each by name.

Isaiah 40:26
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
    Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

Amos 5:8
He who made the Pleiades and Orion,
    who turns midnight into dawn
    and darkens day into night,
who calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out over the face of the land--
    the Lord is his name.

 Matthew 2:1-2, 9-10

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

1 Corinthians 15:41
The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

How big is the universe

A series of pictures that brings into perspective the size of our universe
Interactive Scale Model of Creation - flash player needed

To fully capture the awe of the vastly different sizes of the Pillars of Creation, Andromeda, the sun, elephants and HIV, you really need to see images, not just illustrations of these items. This is a great instructional tools for kids and adults alike, and for anyone who is curious to see the universe on every scale.

How To Use:

ZOOM: Zoom in and out with the wheel of your mouse, this works best in FULL SCREEN. You can also move the yellow light by holding it with the mouse and moving it right or left to zoom in or out. You can go see what's smaller than an atom, and what's bigger than the galaxy.

FULL SCREEN: To experience this interactive infographic in full screen (our recommendation) click the "Full Screen" button in the top right corner of the infographic.

You can choose one of nine starting points by moving your mouse over and clicking one of the 9 images (atoms, animals, buildings, mountains, planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies and the observable universe).

To relocate to one of the nine entry points, click the corresponding yellow dot on the scroller at the bottom of the page
